Upright Hen
Product Details
The Upright Hen is our original turkey decoy and still one of our most popular options. A great decoy for the run and gun hunter who likes to travel light and setup fast, while at the same time a great addition to a multi decoy setup. Her upright posture gives her great visibility in tall grass and makes her a natural draw for both gobblers and jealous hens alike. She is equally effective at drawing in both, which makes her a great choice as a first decoy.
Like all our turkey decoys, she is made out of our legendary A.C.E. Technology which means that she is built to take a beating. There is no inflation required, so her rugged body will always hold it’s natural shape. She can even withstand an accidental shotgun blast or broadhead through the body with only minimal damage. Made in the U.S.A.
Includes: (1) Upright Hen, (1) Hen Turkey Stake, and (1) Camo Bag with Shoulder Strap
Decoy Weight (Bag and Stake): 3lbs
Justin –
My first DSD decoy and WOW has it held up well. The ACE technology is amazing. If I bring one decoy it’s always this one. Killed several toms off of it. Very well made, very realistic. Put it side by side with the competitors and this hen decoy is clearly the most realistic. Best turkey decoys available.
Kent Ingram –
My experience is this and all DSD decoys are lethal on turkeys. I have evolved to set out all 4 hens and the jake tom decoy. One learning experience had a big tom in Kansas come 400 yards across a flowed field early afternoon to beat the living hell out of jake decoy for 15 minutes, and then bred the submissive hen decoy while I mistakenly took a brief walk. My fellow hunter whom had already filled out his tom tag videoed the entire scene. Oh well, moral of story is stay close to DSD decoys. Hunters need every advantage they can get, and in my book DSD decoys are as important as my shotgun.
Danny Stoll –
Best decoy out there in my opinion! Very realistic and indestructible! I get amazed on how well it works with bringing hens up close which usually helps drag them wary gobblers in too!
Raul A. Garcia –
Incredible detail, field proven toughness, easy to deploy! It has also successfully attracted our Osceola turkeys! I would recommend this decoy and any other DSD decoy to all hunters. I am hoping to add another, and these will be heirlooms some day!
Keith Foote –
The DSD Upright Hen is the most realistic turkey hen decoy I have ever used!!
Brandt Detmers –
I have traveled to multiple states around the country and have killed a grand slam. The success I have experienced with DSD is remarkable. I have Video recorded many of my hunts and have a lot of footage of turkeys beating up the the Jake decoy. I have had subordinate gobblers skirt my Jake decoy and have gone back in the next day with just a pair of the hen decoys and the have come right. I don’t go into the woods without my DSD decoys!
roger –
Most realistic hen decoy on the market today. I have a stuffed hen and she stays home now that I have the DSD’s.
Glen Bellew –
The upright hen was the first DSD decoy I purchased, and it was the first year that ACE technology was produced. I have used it extensively, in multiple states, every season since. The paint on this decoy has held up remarkably well, and the realistic pose, details, and coloring make a difference. Hens that come into the set hang around longer than with other decoys…sometimes too long!
Tim –
Fantastic decoy. Realistic, durable, and the birds love it.
John Meyen –
I was amazed the first time I used this decoy! Even the hens walked right up to it and feed around it like it was part of the flock. The colors are so real that it scares me sometimes when I glance at it because I think a real turkey has snuck in on me!
Scott Childress –
Are you kidding me? I’ve never had so many Turkeys get on top of this decoy! My videos should be outlawed!! I laugh at this TSS generation and how far they can kill, with this decoy it’s all about how close they get!!!
Steve Armstrong –
Exceptional realism and quality. I have been using this decoy for over 5 years now, and it still looks brand new. Looking forward to trying the DS jake this spring!
Derek Craig –
This is probably the most versatile of the hen decoys that DSD offers. It is just an all around excellent decoy in a natural pose. Also it will work if you want to use it in a breeder type of look with a jake or strutter decoy. When you are in a field where the ground cover is a bit tall this decoy laying on the ground (not using the stake) will give a look of hen in a submissive position, yet it is tall enough to be seen over top of the tall cover, where an actual submissive or breeder decoy might be too low in these situations. Just a great decoy!
Tate Larson –
Have had this decoy for about 6 years now. Can’t say enough about the durability. Its been through a lot and still good as new. I bought this one for it’s versatility. I have used it alone or with my DSD Jake and have had great success both ways.
Joseph Brennen –
Yeah I love ???? my upright hen it’s a Gobbler killing machine .
Mark Winters (verified owner) –
Best decoy on the market. Even hens walk right up to it and stay awhile. Use it with the feeding hen. Only ever had one gobbler not come all the way in (found out later he had recently been shot at and hit by a couple of pellets).
Todd Hudson –
Replaced my taxidermy decoys with the sure thing. Great for all weather conditions unlike my stuffers and a lot easier to transport. Great job DSG!
Todd Hudson –
Great for all weather conditions unlike my stuffers and a lot easier to transport. Great job DSG!
Todd Hudson –
Great for all weather conditions unlike my stuffers and a lot easier to transport. Great job DSG! Replaced my taxidermy decoys with the sure thing.
John Jefferson –
This is a great decoy. Very life like. I have had gobblers attack it and knock it to the ground, hens peck it and beat it with their wings. I even had a bobcat attack it once. I once put out my Dave Smith decoy along with another brand decoy and had hens and gobblers come in and peck and wing beat the Dave Smith decoy and ignore the other one. I have found no other decoy that compares.
Chris –
I’ve been using DSD turkey decoys for years now and it’s amazing how realistic they are. I hate to admit how many times I’ve woken up from a short “blind nap” and gotten fooled by my own decoys. Scary!! I’ve never had a decoy that has worked better at pulling in weary, old Tom’s. They are my go to decoys every time.
Kyle –
All I can say is wow you won’t find any other decoy with this much attention to detail most realistic I’ve ever seen and the Quality of material it is made of you won’t be disappointed
Jeremy Lawson –
As with most, I purchased this decoy first. Have killed many many turkeys using this decoy. Outstanding detail and realism. Highly recommended to anyone looking for the perfect decoy!
Joe Grossman –
I have both the upright hen and Jake decoy. I hunt with one or both and there is no other decoy on the market to rival DSD decoys.
If you’re a serious turkey hunter these are the decoys to own.
Cliff Koziczkowski –
I have used this hen along with the Jake decoy and the combination is deadly! Most realistic looking decoys around. Very durable !
Michael Mullin –
If you still haven’t tried a Dave Smith Decoy, you need to. DSD makes some of the most realistic lifelike decoys I have ever used. When it comes to fooling a trophy gobbler why would you want to spend your hard earned money on anything else. I have used Dave Smith Decoys for a several years and will never go back to the competition. My decoys have handled many hunting seasons of hard use and still continue to put fans, spurs, and beards on the wall. Try a DSD this year and I promise you will be happy you did.
Darin Crooks –
The best decoys on the market! This hen fools them every time!!
Jason Crain –
I bought the DSD hen over ten years ago. To this day it’s the only decoy I use. It still looks brand new and is so real looking it’s unbelievable. My son and nephew both shot their first turkey over this decoy and I will use it until the day I can’t go and then pass it on! Well worth the money and the quality is second to none!
Roland Roth –
Love the upright and the feeding hen decoys. I bow hunt turkeys, set my DS jake about 15 yards in front of my blind. It is rare that live hens don’t come right into the decoys. Sometimes taking a nap. Toms that see this usually can’t resist and come in looking for love. I get a 15 yard shot that way. Thanks for a great product.
willy saucerman –
I own hen. First time out wild hen bout pecked her eyes out.
Next purchase was jake.
Appears gob bn let’s in my county are lovers not fighters .
Last year taking my nephew during youth season I had long beard literally flog him repeatedly.
We made coolest 19 minute video before DJ shot him in face at 14 yds.
ThanksDSD
.
gjacobsphd –
As a new turkey hunter, I purchased the DSD Hen and used it to attract my first ever gobbler. this decoy has enabled me to attract and kill a turkey every year since I began turkey hunting in 2015. Thank you David Smith Decoys
Dan Young –
The most realistic decoy on the market. I have used this decoy in New York, Iowa, North Carolina, Virginia, and Nebraska. To put is plainly, DSD work. I always carry this hen with the 3/4 strut jake. When used together even the most pressured gobbler just can’t resist. You know they look good when you catch yourself going a double take on your own setup. LOL.
David Strickland –
DSD decoys work. The decoys are made with such detail that they look very realistic. I believe the quality of the decoys made the difference on many occasions. Thanks for a great product
Will Buckingham –
This was the very first DSD decoy I bought and even before they implemented the ACE technology. The amount of detail that is worked into these decoys is outstanding. They have truly added a new element to my hunt not only with my chance of success but my ability to observe live turkeys in a calm natural state. The addition of the ACE technology places DSD that much farther on top of the rest.
The best part is they are made in the USA….making America Great Again!
C. C. Gallo –
I wanted the best decoy that I could find. For the relatively few times that all the stars align everything works out enough to have a gobbler coming in, I didn’t want to skimp on anything. This decoy is certaly the best that I have ever seen and I love it!
Wayne Davis –
I have used a DSD upright hen for several years. They are second to none. No other production decoy can compare to them unless it is a mounted hen and they would never hold up like a DSD can. Excellent detail and colors will fool real turkeys every time. I have had many gobblers mount the hen and hens will try to fight the DSD repeatedly. Great product. Thanks DSD!
Fred Maxie –
This is my 1st DSD, never had a decoy like her, she has been beat down by hens and loved by Tom’s, but she always goes home with me
Charles Semrad –
I have used many different turkey decoys but since my wife for this for me a few years ago I only use this one. Turkeys come right up to it and start a conversation. Shot lots of birds over it and I am not that good on the call.
Lee Hansen –
This decoy has been great. I hunt the late season and the educated toms still come to the decoy because it is so realistic looking. The hens will come in and try to peck this decoys out of their life. Of course this and other hen action, will greatly help bring in he big wise toms! best decoy around.
David Walker –
I own almost all of the DSD turkey decoys and if I had to choose one it would be the upright hen.
when a gobbler is hug up with hens this decoy has made my day successful more than once.
The hens can not stand this decoy and have come in a gave her a beating many times. This drives a gobbler crazy and has to come in and watch the fight
His mistake. My Upright hen has been attacked so many times I’ve had to repaint the eyes many times over.
This is an awesome decoy!
Justin Cochran –
Best decoy on the market. Once a munsta gobbler catches a glimpse it’s on like donkey Kong. Sit back an enjoy the show.
Troy White –
I’ve had the upright hen for 3 seasons now and she’s seen it all! From getting her eyes pecked out by angry hens. Ran around the stake by worked up long beards. And even had dirt kicked in her face by content hens dusting themselves! I couldn’t be happier with this product. DSD is the ONLY decoy I’ll use
Kevin Frick –
This was the first turkey decoy I purchased, and could not be happier with the years of use I have gotten out of it! It looks extremely realistic, and withstands all the abuse you can put it through. Overall a great decoy that will give me many more years and bring in many more turkeys.
Sam Hudson –
My buddy has this decoy and it brought in 3 strutting toms 45 minutes into the hunt. Once they saw this hen they couldn’t stay away! Love your products
Cody –
Hands down best decoys I’ve ever used. I hunt with a bow and the attention to detail on these allow the birds to come in and never second guess whether it’s a real bird or not.
Phillip Stewart –
It’s been remarkable watching birds literally run into my set to check out the new girl… makes all the difference when my days afield are limited… thanks for a great product.
Justin Meyers –
Put this side by side with any other hen decoy. Simply the best there it. Mine is years old and has held up very well. The realism and quality is evident. Get the best.
John childs –
There are decoys and then there are Dave Smith decoys !! Used the upright hen many times and have had very good success with it. One of the last toms I shot strutted and displayed for 20 minutes or so before I shot him. The upright hen combined with the feeding hen has worked well also. The realism is incredible and ive never seen a turkey scoff at these. I have seen that with the lesser quality dekes though. Add a Dave Smith decoy to your hunt and experience the difference it can make.
Phillip –
I’ve had a hen since the first year they were offered. Named her “Jenna” 😉 loved every minute with her, even though she’s getting a little old and ragged she’s held up well thru it all. Plenty of toms and jakes and fallen victim to her feminine wiles. And I’ll stand by her(actually sit behind her) for many more seasons to come.
Steven Sands –
I have owned almost every type of turkey decoy in the last 20 years and none of them come close to this decoy. The birds react and respond to this decoy different then any other decoy on the market. They never shy away from the realism and if they don’t commit 100% to the setup it will never be because of this decoy. It can also take a beating and washing and keep its great appearance, mine rattles from getting a little too close to a pattern.
Steve Roush –
Had a coyote knock one of your turkey decoys off the rod. Fools more than just birds. Very good decoys
David Schmetterling –
Best decoys on the market, and made in the USA. I had mine painted like a Merriam’s and the quality and the customer service were both excellent.
Steven A Grist –
Excellent realisim. Absolutley love it. Best real decoy on market. Looking forward to purchase a Strutting bird this season.
Steve Roush –
Had a coyote hit one of your turkey decoys. Fools more than just birds. Very good decoys.
Greg McElroy –
These decoys are hands down the best on the market. You can’t beat the quality….the self healing construction….the lifelike realism. I won’t go in the woods without them. Made the switch over 10 years ago and own 4 different DSD turkey decoys!
John Fiehler –
I have gotten more Tom’s to come in on a dead run to greet this little princess, she is soo sexy I call her my “Judas Hen”
Katie Lilly –
Going into her third season and she looks as good as new! She is the most realistic hen decoy I have seen, and the turkeys seem to agree. I know the price seems high at first, but after you consider you will never have to buy another, it is a bargain!
Daniel R. –
Love this decoy. The gobblers love the realism!
Kyle Blank –
It never gets old fooling hens, Jake’s, and Toms. She has taken some serious abuse over the years, but has no signs of damage.
David Wood –
Nothing beat having the real thing. BUT DSD decoys are the next thing to real!! This decoy started it all. And look at them today. I’ve used this decoy countless times to fool Mr. Ol Jellyhead into giving up. Great decoys and Great group of guys that make this the best on the market in anything they make and sell.
Randy Christensen –
The one that started it all for me the “Upright Hen”, I have been chasing turkeys since the early 90’s and have hunted with a number of decoys. The game changed when I bought my first DSD back in spring of 2011 and had responses that I had never seen with other decoys before and I started adding to the flock. I can attest to the body positions and how they work within the social /dominance structure in turkey behavior. DSD’s are the decoy all others are compared to but never matched. DSD Detail, DSD Durability, DSD Deadly… DSD Done!!
Matt Herreid –
I’ve been using DSD turkey decoys from the start…
They are durable. Effective. And DSD keeps up with color & style trends.
I use these decoys in my home state, and on many out of state trips.
Bravo DSD!!
Denny Daniels –
Very realistic. Kind of pricey but you get what you pay for in this case
Robert Woodworth –
By far the most realistic and durable decoy out there. It has been a game changer for me here in Indiana on very pressured public land birds! Thank you for your amazing products.
John Heiney –
This is a great addition to the mating pair, or as a stand alone decoy. Paint, and quality are amazing. Durability is unmatched by any decoys on the market.
John Heiney-Giving Thanks Outdoors
Robert Alvin Pearson –
Having turkey hunted for the past 52 years with 15 Grand Slams and 2 World Slams, this is the most realistic hen decoy I’ve seen. I have used them all and until Dave Smith Decoys, I’ve been an Avian X man. The Dave Smith are much user friendly,in that, they don’t constantly have to be inflated and they hold their shape. They are lighter and the solid carry bag doesn’t get hung on limbs or briars as much as the mesh type bags do. This is a winner, when the hens don’t want to leave without the decoy following along!! Really holds their attention.
Craig White –
This is a awesome decoy. Extremely realistic and effective. My son and I run a Avian X hen and the DSD side by side most times. 9/10 times the DSD is the Toms first choice.
Clay Roberson (verified owner) –
DSD are by far the best decoys on the market!!!! I was at the NWTF expo and seen everything there is to offer in the turkey world. There wasn’t another decoy that even came close to looking as good as these . Can’t go wrong with them
Garrett Addison –
Had this hen out as one of my 3 decoys in KS, and I had a hen spin a dirt ring around her picking her head tryingg to fight. I though for sure the paint would be destroyed. To my amazment, it didn’t even chip!!! It looked the same as when i pulled it out of the box after its first season of abuse. Tough is an understatement. I love them.
Doug Peters –
This gal coupled with a DSD Jake has brought me almost a 100% success ratio when toms see these two together. Thanks DSD!
Rod Nance –
Great decoys. So lifelike. DSD makes the best decoys on the market. Just ordered my 4th one last week
Jeffrey Delte –
I’ve used this decoy for around 8 years and have had great results! The durability is amazing!!
Josh Davis –
This was my first DSD. From the first day I could tell how much more effective these decoys were. Hens have come right up to it and pecked on it. Gobblers have strutted right up against it. The durability of the decoy won me over as well. I watched several independent quality tests online.
Laine Baker –
Is DSD the best decoy company there ever was? That’s like asking “does a bear sh** in the woods”. Very very stupid question, DSD is and always will be the very best decoy company EVER! I have had the upright hen decoy for over 6 years! I have given out more dirt naps to big ole long roped mouth watering butter balled thunder chickens than I ever have using any other decoys in the past. Zink, Flambeau, Dakota, GHG, Primos, whatever decoy you have that is not a DSD find the local garbage dumpster and get rid of quickest way possible. Want to start killing weary old birds that get hung up 100 yards out because the pink plastic decoy you got looks like a flamingo shining in the sun… Look no further than the DSD line of decoys. Quit being a tight wad spend the money and get yourself a DSD decoy and start killing more birds than you ever have! You get what you pay for, these decoys are super durable and will last you your lifetime. My upright hen has a mixture of 4, 5 and 6 shot rattling around Inside from shooting the decoy several times due to birds being so close that they are making sweet love to the pretty ole girl. Seriously do yourself a favor do your youth hunters a favor get yourself a DSD and quit whining about the birds you don’t kill and start bragging about he birds you do kill by using a ba***s decoy!
Carson Mackey –
DSD’s are by far the most realistic and lifelike decoys on the market. Nothing else compares and Washington state merriams seem to like their look as well.
Lane –
I’ve hunted over this decoys with success for several years now. We see success year after year. There is no better decoy on the market today. Best turkey hunting investment you can make
Scott –
I particularly like this hen in taller grass or later in the season when the hunting gets tough. I little more visible and taller keeps other hens wanting to come investigate and compete. I love calling hens to this decoy which will eventually pull a gobbler right into range
Troy parrish –
Bought an upright hen about 5 years ago. I have hunted over it in the mountains, in timber and in open fields. Once the tom sees the decoy it’s all over. They come sprinting in after it!
Dallas Durkop –
These decoys are the best by far I have ever used! Brings in toms, jakes, and even hens! These hen decoys are so realistic the ladies can’t help but get jealous and come to see who the new group in their turf is.
Josh Trammell –
Got “The Flock” a few weeks ago and they are awesome!! Can’t wait for March 15th so I can try them out. Look absolutely life like! Service was also great being I ordered mine over the phone. Ty DSD!
Brian Huber –
Love my hen DSD turkey decoy. Some chipping on bill and some wear of paint but otherwise still in good condition.
Kevin Mahan –
This is the first Dave Smith decoy I bought a few years back. Looked so lifelike I decided to buy the jake as well. Have used them on several hunts with great success. Great decoys overall
Jeremy Hanna –
I’ve used all kinds of other name decoys over the last 25+ years of turkey hunting. I’ve never had much success with decoys until I broke down and bought the feeding hen. Was blown away with the success and reactions I got with the DSD decoy. Totally worth the money second to none compared to competitors. Since I’ve bought my buddy the stand up hen for Christmas and have purchesed for myself the Tom stutter and Jake this past summer and look forward to putting them to the test. Hope I don’t get confused when he comes in and shoot my decoy that’s who realistic these things look! Recommend to everyone I talk turkey to.
Robert Ramsholm –
One of the original girls!! Still working hard in the field. Detail, DSD is the best out there. Paint Coloration, DSD still the leader. Any improvements??? More packable?? Heads of my hens are missing paint only after three weeks of hunting. Rubbing from my game bag possibly? Still my favorite decoys to this day. Only other problem… I need more money to buy more DSD decoys
Jerry Nicholson –
Used as part of the “flock” in Fall or Spring,or on its own. The realism of the DSD upright hen draws birds in.
Tim Slavin –
I never knew there was that much difference in decoys till I used. DSD.
The mobility and life like look sold me.
www.nightnurse –
I bought the upright hen two years ago ,it’s my go to never go with out decoy. Has helped me kill a number of nice Toms. It’s size is perfect tough and bag that it comes with are great. Great product proud to own such a nice product great job.
Baron Summerville –
I have killed many birds over this decoy. Ive had it now for 3 years and it has held up to the abuse of the turkey season grind. it looks just like a real hen, ive had alot of hens stand right beside it and it blends right in. i I also love the dsd carry bag it came with. Great product i will buy more products from dsd!
Casey Rusch –
Best decoys on the market today. The realism is unmatched and they are very durable. The attention to detail is what makes the decoy. Another awesome products from Dave Smith!
Ken McClemont –
By far the best decoy i have used. Very durable and realistic. Not only does it bring in turkey’s but has also been attacked by hawks and coyotes.
Chavis Kerby –
By far the best decoys available, I’ve had undeniable success using my dsd decoys
Mike –
The upright hen is perfect for luring the “boss” hen into the spread. Once the boss hen commits, the tom will follow.
Erik Nilsson –
The upright hen is my go to turkey decoy in the spring and fall. Add a couple to your set and the Toms can’t resist them. We chase Easterns all spring in some high pressure areas and DSD flat out help us put birds in the bag.
Jason Tokarchick –
I used to use the old foam hen decoys for years until I finally pulled the trigger on a pair of DSD hen decoys some years back. With the amount of money that I had spent on replacing foam decoys every few years, I should have just bought these from the get go. They have lasted and held up far beyond my expectations in terms of durability and paint. Lets not forget how sexy they look out in the field!
Brandon mcclaskey –
Best decoys I’ve ever owned I also own the DSD jake to not only are they the most real looking decoys I’ve ever used they also are extremely durable I’ve had my upright hen for going on 5 years n still looks as new as the day it arrived at my house best and only decoys I’ll ever buy. Thanks for making a great decoy.
Mark Vrtiska –
I own an upright and feeding hen decoy. There isn’t another decoy I’d use. I’ve had toms so locked in its almost impossible to get them out of strut to shoot them. Best indication to me about how good these decoys were was one time a friend and I had tom cross 400 yards of open soybean field. Out of sight to us at the time were two live hens. He strutted on a point of trees where both the DSDs and the two live hens could see him. He held there because of the DSDs. When the live hens gave him no attention, he immediately came in and my friend bagged him. The DSDs held him off two live hens. Final thing – If I had to make a choice, my DSDs would ride in the cab while my hunting buddies would in the back of my truck.
Kurt DuBore –
I’ve used this decoy along with the feeding hen for the past few years with amazing results. The realistic look of these decoys is second to none. They’ve taken serious beatings from many a hen and have been mounted dozens of times by jakes and toms. Have even shot a few off of them. They’re durable enough to withstand a few BB’s too. Absolutely the best out there!
Jeremy J –
Best hen decoy I have ever used! I often pair with a full strutter and it works well. Sometimes I use her right by herself and she gets the job done. I started marking her tail everytime she is part of a harvest and she has been involved in 18 killings (not all by me but this decoy has been a part of that many). Also came along with me to harvest my first grand slam 2 years ago. Can’t say enough! DSD decoys are as realistic as they get!
Easton M. –
The realism achieved by these decoys is unmatched. The detail in color patterns along with its other features truly makes is as close to the real thing as it gets!
Nick Ison –
Bought this decoy last year and love the realism it provides. Construction is top notch and very easy to use!
Coney DiGenova –
I bought the upright hen about 6 years ago. From the first day I used it, I could tell it was well worth the money I paid for it. I have had hens come up to it and peck it in the head. I have had Toms mount it. I have even had a coyote attack it. I spend a lot of money every year on hunting supplies. I know this is one of the higher priced decoy on the market. But as the old saying goes you get what you pay for. Well that holds true for the DSD decoys. In my opinion the most realistic decoys out there. Try one you won’t be disappointed.
Rollin henson –
Great decoy
Will Dalton –
The upright hen is awesome!!! No other decoy company comes close to the realism of DSD. Ive killed a pile of longbeards using mine. Buy it…you won’t be disappointed.
Kim Mydland –
I’ve had the DSD upright hen now for 7 years & have shot Merriam’s,Eastern’s & Rio toms over her. Its an awesome decoy. I hope too purchase more.
swbake4 –
Reviewed other decoys, but settled on DSD’s because they were made in the USA. We bought 2 hens and a jake and this year bought the Mating Motion Pair. My friends love the jake. But I love the upright hen. Have made several hens jealous and come over to beat up on her. Always a good show.
Mike Skinner –
I own the DSD Upright Hen, the Breeding Pair, the Feeding Hen and the DSD Strutter. Cannot buy better turkey decoys. I’m a believer.
Dave Kelch –
I purchased the DSD upright hen, feeding hen, and 3/4 strut jake decoy a number of years ago. OMG!! So realistic and stakes that actually work!! Have used them annually for the past few years in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida with 100% success!! Never had a bird become decoy shy, and called in toms for myself, my wife my son and my daughter. Two years ago, our son had graduated from college, became and RN, found the love of his wife (also a turkey hunter) and asked me if I’d give him MY DSD decoys as an extra wedding present!! Well, needless to say, I did (the upright hen had a few #5 shot rolling around in her from a tight shot on a gobbler) and I went right out to Cabela’s and was lucky enough to purchase all three (both hens and jake) on their after season price mark down!!
Hunted over NEW DSD’s last spring, and called in my wife’s Osceloa for her, which gave her the Grand Slam!! Thanks DSD for a GREAT product——and so realistic I’m half afraid to use the jake in a public area!!!
Mike Malone –
Named my girl beirtha because she has never failed bring in the old boys that never want to join but just stay out their 80 yards and strut. Knock on wood never lost a gobbler with her out front.
Mike Adamson –
Last season was my first year turkey hunting. Ended up bagging two turkeys and had many times when coyotes attacked the decoy thinking it was the real thing. What a great product!!
D Sams –
A friend sent me the upright hen as a gift for a turkey hunt I took him on. ( he did not like my decoys) The first morning I set her out and I got a gobble right off the bat. The tom came in hot and walked right up to her and went into full strut and then started rubbing his beard on her. I was shooting with my Nikon D3s and a 600 mm lens and liking what I was seeing from my ground blind. The tom then jumped on top of her and started humping her like no tomorrow. You could here his feet clamping down on the decoy and I was thinking she would be torn up. But there was not even a scratch. The tom continued to spin and hump the decoy and she just kept spinning around. I could not believe the pole did not fall over there was so much movement. I looked at my camera and I had shot over 600 frames. I figured it was time to pick up the 12 ga. I rested the gun on the camera lens and mouth called to him. On the third call, he finally looked around and gobbled. I shot him as he was still on top of my not so brand new Dave Smith hen decoy. In the photos, it is very hard to tell that the decoy is not a real bird. People are amazed
Troy Haskett –
I purchased this hen a few years back, it is so life like that I’ve been able to call birds in even with the foam decoys out, they walk past the foam ones to go right to her, not even giving it a second thought. Now this and the Jake are the ones I take out hands down.
Ben Evans –
I bought my little Paris the first year they came out and dozens of Toms have fallen in love with her and paid the price. I love the decoy and so do the Toms. Mine is the original hard plastic decoy and I think the new flexible decoy is the ultimate turkey decoy and by far the best on the market. I also have the original Jake decoy and a feeder hen. Simply awesome decoys.
David –
Awesome decoy I am planing on getting a Jake decoy and a submissive hen to add to my setup
Randy H –
Love these decoys. Bought the upright hen (lovingly named “Jenny”) in 2008 (original hard plastic) and I have had success with her ever since. She was joined by the original Jake (named “Jake”) in 2009. They’re a little bulky to be carrying out to the woods, but the detail, quality and success rate cannot be denied.
Steve –
Been using this decoy for several years. No signs of wear from anything. That includes bagging, a little shot and other hens pecking it. Simply a great decoy.
Jared Hooks –
Top of the line decoy! This was my first DSD purchase several years ago, since then the proof is in the pudding. It is a top of the line attractant and brings a calming presence, turns the heads white as can be. Highly recommend, Made in the USA, great customer service.
Robert –
It was a hard choice to spend this much on a decoy, but I knew how long I used my old decoy and figured it would be money well spent to get a top of the line item that I would use for years. In the 1st spring with the decoy I had hens come by to peck it several times and a jake hell bent on breeding it. I’ve had it 5 or 6 years and have been pretty happy with it. The only fault is that the peg can ‘float’ around inside the decoy when I walk with it and make a little bit of noise. My name for the decoy is “The Puppet”. My brother bought one too and calls his “Little Ho”.

Two seasons ago I struggled all season long trying to get a bird into Bow range with other decoys. They would see the decoy(s) but never commit! This went on all season long! Talk about frustrating! Finally, the last week of season I bought the DSD upright hen and headed out to the woods. The realism that this decoy had was just the Trick the stubborn tom needed to come right in! Needless to say that was all I needed to seal the deal. I went out that same day and bought the DSD 3/4 jake and opening day the following season had a tom come running in to beat up the jake and made for a super easy 10yd shot! I’m sold on the realism and have no doubts I will add more decoys to the flock soon. Thanks for making a great, realistic product!
Steven Brooker –
Most realistic hen decoy I have ever seen! After unboxing I had to take a second to make sure it wasn’t real. Great Job!
Jim Lottman –
Pre-ordered your original upright hen when they were first introduced. They were individually hand painted with incredible detail, and an absolute work of art. They are without a doubt the absolute best looking decoy on the market. I then added another Hen and a Jake the next year. If you want the absolute very best Turkey decoys on the market, Dave Smith Decoys are the ONLY way to go!
Big D in TX –
DSD: Don’t Shoot Decoys…they are that real.
The product that DSD creates have the appearance of life. They should come with a warning sticker. I used to prostaff for a competitor of DSD and we could never reach the bar that Dave and his team sets. We may have sold more qty but the quality could never be matched.
The customer service and care has created a loyalty that is unmatched.

I Have been very happy with the results I get with the Upright and Feeding hen duo! I can’t count how many times I’ve had mature toms and jakes come right in and get nasty with with my DSD decoys!
Have purchased the Mating pair for this year and can’t wait to get them out and start filming!
Great products and great quality!
John M Young –
Love my DSD decoy. The most realistic decoy you can by. I have so much confidence in my set up when I am using this decoy. I often have hens that will come into soft calling and stay for a while.
Marty stump –
I think by far the best decoy on the market and money can by I love mine so much I kick my soon to be wife out of bed to sleep with the decoy
Roy –
To have hens come in and push on these decoys is proof to the realism in the quality craftsmanship of the decoys. I still use 2 of the hard ones made before the ace style. I have 2 ace hens as well. They’ve been all over the US tricking Meriams Easterns and Rios
Shawn Daffer –
I just got this product I was a little nervous because of the price. It’s the most expensive decoy I have ever bought. It is worth every penny. It’s amazing how real it looks.
Roger Montero –
There is not a more life like decoy on the market. I bow hunt for turkeys exclusively and I require the turkeys to be up close and personal. There is not another decoy that I wound trust.
Rex vallance –
My fav turkey decoy, and made in USA can’t beat that. Had it for few years now it’s not my luckiest yet but definitely the best looking.
Thor ostrom –
An incredibly realistic decoy. It withstands the abuse Toms and aggressive hens can put to it and it fools even the toughest gobble. I would highly recommend
Hughes Tomlinson –
By far the most realistic decoys ever made. This up right hen has never let me down
Michael Barr –
The absolute only decoys I will ever take on a hunt. From the super attention to detail In the paint to the indestructible build of these decoys you’ll never go wrong owning a DSD . I bought feeding and upright hen a couple years ago and immediately knew I had something special. I’ve had numerous turkeys physically interact with these decoys from jakes and toms trying to breed them to hens attacking them and if that doesn’t scream realism then I don’t know what does. Thanks DSD for the awesome decoys and I can’t wait until late April to be sitting over them watching the sun rise in the Indiana turkey woods ! Good luck everyone !
Donald McLamb –
Best turkey decoys on the market. Love the Ace technology and you don’t have to blow them up like the LCDs.
Eric Miker –
Have had this decoy for a few years. Used it alongside taxidermy decoys on 3 different subspecies of turkeys. Always had great results. Many times the birds pick this one over the stuffers to either fall in love with or pick a fight with. Paint has held up amazingly for the abuse I put it through.
Josh P –
Hunted over this decoy with a junior hunter, well long story short he thought the decoy was the real deal & shot it. Decoy is still in working order & still looks great. Fooled the birds and a junior!
Steve Terry –
Most realistic decoy there is, I have used this decoy for years and still looks the same as when first purchased.
Brian Dirks –
Best upright hen on the market. Most realistic hen on the market. I like to either set it on the edge of the spread like it is walking away. I always use it in the late season when things green up.
Cory Meier –
I have one DSD upright hen and one other brand upright hen that I have in my decoy setup. Both hens look realistic but it’s the DSD hen that will always get picked on when the lead hen wants to fight. Even though it’s been in a fight several times, it looks just like the day I got it.
Trevor FRANKLIN –
DSD Decoys have helped my grandfather, brother, and several others I know kill several mature toms . These decoys attract hens just as well as gobblers. Best decoys on the market, blows avian X out of the water. Spend the extra money and buy a real decoy, buy a DAVE SMITH!
JACK CHAGNON –
I have used this decoy and other DSD decoys for the past several years. They are fantastic. I have put some other brands along with Dave’s decoys and the turkeys don’t even look at the other brand and go right to the DSD. One of my hens is getting a bit pecked over from other hens pecking at it but it just keeps bringing them in. 5 stars all the way.
Scott Griffin –
I’ve used your decoys for seven years now and never had a turkey shy away. They are by far the most realistic decoys on the market. One of the best decisions that I’ve ever made was to add your decoys to my arsenal. Thanks DSD for producing such quality decoys
Maurice campbell –
I purchased this hen a few years ago. All I hunt is public land and these birds see alot of decoys. I got pretty much quit using decoys because alot of birds were getting spooked. Until a friend introduced me to dave Smith decoys. It’s a game changer and I don’t leave the truck with out her.
Nick Bakner –
The DSD upright hen is what I believe to be the most realistic turkey decoy on the market. I’ve definitely put this decoy to the test hunting the bottomland hardwoods of the south to hunting various parts of the Appalachian mountains. I would recommend these decoy to anyone!
Billy Gray –
I bought this lady last year in hopes that it would finally bring in my first bird. I was hesitant based on the price tag, but man did it pay off. Not only was i able to harvest my first bird, I had a pick of 2 different toms fighting over her. Well worth any price tag. Can’t find 1 thing bad about this decoy or any decoy i have seen from dsd. Realism is unsurpassed. I had a hard time decifering the decoy from the real birds in the flock. Camo carry bag is very nice and keeps me mobile. Stake is solid and easily put into the ground and i like that it slides into the tail so i dont lose it while transporting. I was so impressed i bought the 3/4 jake to try out this year. Thunderchickens beware.
Kenny Bird –
I paired this hen with a DSD jake and it a deadly combination!
We have had more successful hunts since purchasing these decoys.
The most life like decoys on the market period!
These decoys gives me all the confidence in the world that it will be a successful hunt.

@turkeyjack3 I’m a avid outdoor photographer and hunt nearly every morning of the turkey season. I’ve been using DSD decoys for about 3 years now and have watched probably 20-30 gobblers a year die either with a camera or a shotgun a year over DSD decoys. Life like realism, they take a beating riding in the back of the truck nearly every day of the season and the paint hasn’t cracked or chipped. I know there pricey, but you get what you pay for. There’s no reason you want be killing turkeys over this decoy for many years to come.
DuckCommander98 –
Absolutely best decoys on the market for any beginner or veteran turkey hunter. Hands down the best looking and all around best choice anyone could make worth every penny. I’ll recommend these to anyone who I talk turkey with and will stick with these decoys day in and out!
Brad Gross –
I purchased the flock about 4 years ago from your website. From the moment I saw Upright Hen I knew I had to have one. I have since purchased the Leading Hen from Cabelas and the Strutter locally. They are amazing. Previously I’ve had feather flex, Flambeau Master Series, and one other brand of strutter which I hated as the fan would always blow off. You can’t go wrong but need to be prepared for the extra weight and space required compared to the older foam type decoys. I have a friend who has purchased the new Avian decoys and I can tell you without a doubt, the DSD are much better.
Derek Smith –
I honestly just bought an upright decoy and haven’t had an opportunity to hunt with it yet. I’ve been struggling with whether I should but a DSD, reading reviews and putting my hands on different decoys. It came down to a DSD or and Avian X. In the end, it came down to fine details. And to me, DSD wins hands down. Realism like you can’t imagine. From feathers to eyes, this decoy has it. Forget losing stakes too!! Really looking forward to putting this decoy to use. I’ll be back to leave another review in a few weeks. With a photo!!! If no photo, it will not be because the decoy didn’t work for me. If you’re struggling with deciding whether you should get a DSD, struggle no more and get one. My favorite part, everything is made in the US.
Gary Yost –
This was my first DSD decoy and all I can say is wow! I’ve owned every kind of decoy from one end of the spectrum to the other including foams, stuffers and other “quality” inflatable decoys and these are by far the best of the best. You will not be disappointed!
Matt Hadley –
This was the first DSD I bought years ago and it changed the way I turkey hunted forever. It truly unbelievable how much better my turkey seasons got after getting the decoy!
Justin Moseley –
I had a great opening weekend in south texas. I had a group of jakes with a longbeard come in. The longbeard was focused on the jake decoy but one of the jakes decided he wanted my hen decoy. He jumped on top of her and stayed there for probably 3-4 minutes.
No other decoy would have stood up to that. I’m working on building my collection of DSD decoys because in my opinion they are they best on the market in both durability and appearance!
Shawn –
The most realistic decoy on the market and not a heavy decoy which is a big factor for me because i do alot of walking for spring turkey
Dan Mallia –
The original hen that changed the way turkey decoys were thought about. Mine has taken a lot of abuse over the years from amorous toms and upset boss hens but still looks like the first day I took her out of the box. Great product
Mark Moreland –
DSD Turkey decoys have changed the way we hunt turkeys.I was fortunate to staff for DSD ,and had some of the first turkey decoys they came out with, even before ACE technology.
I have not gun hunted in over 10 years, and strictly hunt with a crossbow.
I have had so much success and learned a ton about turkey behavior, since the introduction of
DSD’s.
Do yourself a favor, and hunt over the best there is.There is nothing on
The market that even comes close to the realism and attention to detail, that these guys bring to the table.
OntarioHunterTV –
Best decoy on the market! i have had many turkey decoys before this one and I have never seen a hen run to my decoy and attack it as she did. Not 2 minutes later, here comes a huge gobbler running through the grass and I smoked him at 10 yards!
Tomski –
I still have and use the original hard body upright hen. I also have other ds decoys . They r all the newer soft body style. I have had many hens walk up to my upright and peck at it. It’s funny because u can hear there beek pecking at the plastic. I have to glue her head back on several times, but she just keeps going. Thanks for such a great product and keeping up with the quality.
Mark Sutton –
The first DSD decoy I purchased, it has talon marks from golden eagle attacks on two different hunts! That’s realism! I’ve added a feeding hen, 3/4 strut jake and breeding pair, all bringing great results. Best turkey decoys, period. Thanks, DSD
Justin –
Mine is from 2009 and looks like new, many bids killed over it over the years. The best there is. made in USA!!
