Preening Hen
Product Details
Our Preening Hen decoy is the newest addition to our turkey lineup and a DSD exclusive. We set out on designing the ultimate confidence decoy that would attract both hens and gobblers in a sculpture that has never been attempted before.
Wild turkeys spend a lot of time taking care of their feathers, but will only let their guard down to do this when there is zero chance of danger. With her head buried into her feathers and covering her eyes, she sends the crystal clear message that everything is safe around her.
With decades of wild turkey observation, we noticed that when in a flock wild hens will preen themselves at the same time. Almost always preening the same feather group as the bird next to them. To create the ultimate relaxed spread, combine multiple preening hens and place them at different angles. This deadly setup is effective off the roost or during mid day setups.
Preening Hen Includes: (1) Preening Hen Decoy, (1) Hen Stake, (2) Grommets, and (1) Carrying Bag.

I’ve added this decoy pose with the feeder hens to the “relaxed set” arsenal. Amazing posture and looks great.
Peter Stewart –
Brought in 6 or 7 gobblers right to this decoy. Had some of the best spring turkey using the preening hen as part of my setup.
Eric Buhr (verified owner) –
Incredibly realistic posture, feather position and colors. Well done artists, mold makers, painters, and the rest of the team!
This will be a great addition to my DSD flock. 29 days to first deployment!
Mark Ratchek (verified owner) –
Fantastic decoy, put the gobblers at ease, came right in. Baged my bird first season, buddy got his first day of second season last year. Saw no one else using it. Super detailing on this decoy. I won’t leave home without it.
Jake, breeder hen, and the preener, done.
Andrew Maio (verified owner) –
Extremely realistic hen! While guiding a hunter after it rained earlier that day, I placed this decoy in my set up and after calling in some turkeys another hen began to preen in the sunshine right next to the decoy! I couldn’t believe it and took a video to share with DSD via social media. This is a very good confidence decoy to utilize!
Tim Gundrum (verified owner) –
I purchased this decoys last year to add to my flock. I only use DSD decoys now. After buying 1 and seeing how the turkeys reacted to it, I now own 11. This is a great decoys that keeps birds calm and coming in. We went 5 for 5 last spring using it. Works great and well worth the investment.

This was my first DSD decoy I’ve owned. No regrets purchasing it. My friends told me not to take no decoys to public hunting because of the hunting pressure there so after taking the preening hen I had a mature Tom come straight to it.
Brian Burton (verified owner) –
2nd time using it was circle by 6 Jake’s. Looks great and definitely something different .
Jacob Peterson (verified owner) –
The most unique turkey pose on the market! Couldn’t ask for better details in this decoy, and the bag is top quality. I bought this decoy because I wanted to spice up my spread. I’d highly recommend this decoy to anyone, period.
Neal Cothron (verified owner) –
Amazing decoy this decoy alone adds so much more realism and comfort to the spread and turkeys come in without hesitation due to the calm and relaxed pose.
Michael Arnold (verified owner) –
Decoy looks amazing, not the same pose as all the other decoys on the market gives the turkeys something new to look at that they haven’t seen before. Love the stake design and decoy bag is good quality. Will eventually be switching all my turkey decoys to dsd.
DAVE WEBER (verified owner) –
Added on to my set last year. Did not seem to help at all and may have actually be a detriment. Not sure what the turkeys think of it… but to my hunting buddies, and my self, it sort looks like a headless turkey and may be actually spooking off a few gobblers.

I am a retired professional wildlife biologist and own two DSD decoys – a preening hen and a 3/4 strut Jake. These realistic decoys are the best I’ve owned in my 50+ years of hunting turkeys and they add tremendously to my turkey hunting enjoyment and success, I have hunted with the Jake for over 10 years and he and I have shared numerous very close encounters with totally-duped live birds. My preening hen is new this year, but I’m impressed with her detail and realistic posture and am sure that she and I will share an exciting Spring 2025!
